1968 Bill O’Brien resigned the role of Managing Director to his son John. John’s passion was product and, under his leadership, the Breville Research and Development centre was founded.

In the 1970s Breville, imbued with a “we-can-do-it” attitude and a healthy dose of Australian ingenuity, unleashed a series of appliances on the world that would become kitchen icons.

In 1974 the Breville Snack'n'Sandwich Maker was released, selling 400,000 in a year and reaching an amazing 10% of Australian households - one of the most successful product launches in Australian history.
In fact, the term “Breville” is now part of the Aussie vernacular, often used when referring to the style of toasted sandwich it makes. It is even recognized in Australia’s Online Macquarie Dictionary.

In late 1977, Breville revolutionized the kitchen with the launch of the Kitchen Wizz, Australia’s first direct drive food processor and to this day, Breville’s Kitchen Wizz remains amongst Australia’s best selling food processors.
